In 2014 Sol Fitness Adventures founder Melanie Webb contributed an article called Mother Nature’s Gym to the industry leading publication IDEA Fitness Journal explaining the benefits of outdoor exercise. Modern science had just started to discover what our human ancestors always knew – that having a personal connection to nature is critical for our health and well-being. The message resonated with IDEA’s audience, and trainers from across the country reached out to ask for help planning fitness trips for their own clients.

Since that time we’ve watched the obesity and opioid epidemics explode as our communities cope with more stress. Social media and digital distraction make it nearly impossible to carve out time for real rest and rejuvenation. At the same time, however, scientists continue to uncover the benefits of exercising outdoors. The fitness and outdoor industries have begun to look to each other to create solutions and partnerships to help people live healthier, happier lives.

Melanie took sharing her methods to the next level in 2015 by publishing an online fitness course called Sol Guide that would teach fitness pros how to design and lead their own fitness trips. Unfortunately one of the tough lessons to we’ve learned along the way is that business partners aren’t always honest. Sol Guide encountered a number of unethical obstacles and the digital platform was taken down the following year.

We’ll republish the content in a new format soon enough. In the meantime, we still offer consulting to help trainers introduce a new business model to their practice and help more people get outdoors. Call or send us an email through our contact page to get your fitness retreat business started now.
