Just back from: Utah Fitness Retreat, Lake Powell

with Special Guests Utah Tourism and Travel Journalists

When we have the time, Sol Fitness Adventures partners with the State of Utah Tourism to host active travel writers in our amazing home state. Sol’s Wellness Travel Expert, Melanie Webb, met the group at Lone Rock, Lake Powell for a stand up paddle session to Lone Rock. Joining the group were Utah’s Campbell Levy, Editor of Mountain Magazine Olivia Dwyer, Editor of Outside GO’s Whitney James, and award-winning freelance journalist Jayme Moye. Conditions were typical of spring at Lake Powell – chilly and breezy, which gives us our SUP tip of the day: When paddling in windy conditions, always start the paddle into the wind when you’re fresh and strong. That way, the last part of your paddle will be an easy ‘down-winder.’

After our SUP workout we took a short hike to a canyon overlook with spectacular views of the Colorado River. Here we tapped into the blissful solitude and silence of the canyon, complete with dive-bombing cliff swallows, blue skies, and warm breezes. If there’s a more serene spot to connect to one’s own body and the rejuvenating gifts of Mother Nature, I haven’t found it yet!
